It is also something that gives meaning to life, beyond the biological activity of seeking to sustain life.”

In 1938, Johan Huizinga spoke in his book Homo Ludens (The Playing Man) that ‘play precedes culture’.

So-called ‘culture’ is not a single concept, but a by-product of various forms of ‘play’.

However, in recent times, the context of ‘play’ has faded and ‘culture’ has become defined as ‘commerce’.

We have to “protect culture.” We don’t say such crisp words as “preserve culture”. Instead, we want the heat and passion of unquantifiable creativity.

Be the source of culture for a future that is “at play” and whose contours are unclear.
